GETTING STARTED
Actions speak louder than words. That old adage has never been truer than when it concerns your health. So you’re ready to take action. There is only one thing holding you back: where to start?

Your local recreation center will likely have activities that are both social and geared specifically towards your age group. Swimming, dancing, walking, bicycling and a whole array of activities are perfectly viable options. Just be sure to go at your own pace, and be consistent. Twenty minutes of walking a day will be more beneficial than overdoing it a single day and not getting any exercise for a week.
Daily routines of healthy eating and regular physical activity are all a part of maintaining great quality of life.
21st CENTURY EXERCISE
Living in the north snow is a tremendous factor in getting out and about regularly. This may require you to broaden your scope in terms of the types of activities to take part in. Video Games don’t have to be only for the young, and with Nintendo’s Wii there is an opportunity for physical activity for the housebound.
The modern toys have moved well beyond PONG from the 1970s. Motion sensitive devices that track your movement have the added benefit of getting you off the couch. If you loved bowling, tennis, even boxing, there is no reason you can’t participate in your own living room.
Exercise programs aren’t something you need to wait to take part in. You truly can make it happen for yourself right in your own living room. Nintendo’s Wii Fit is an investment in staying healthy through those long winter months. The modern devices have been developed with getting kids, adults, and seniors off the couch, so go for it!
These retirement years are supposed to be leisurely, so don’t rush the exercise. Getting in shape now will help you maintain a healthy out look on life. Being leisurely however isn’t going to be any fun at all if you can’t enjoy it. As we age we all start to feel our aches and pains become more pronounced.
Taking action now is the answer.
As part of your daily routine, particularly if you’re having trouble getting started, begin with a list every day. By setting yourself some goals of what you would like to achieve every day, you will set yourself up for success. Be sure to list off not only physical activity, but healthy eating, as well keeping in touch with friends and family. Read the newspaper, read a good book, watch a movie, get out of the house and enjoy your leisurely healthy new lifestyle.
